No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

The NCLB Act is premised on the belief that all children can learn and achieve high standards. While this federal law lays the foundation for preparing students to develop their academic skills, business groups and other organizations have recommended that additional attention be paid to developing those 21st century technology skills required to be productive citizens in the community and workplace (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2002). Therefore, a learning environment must be cultivated in the classroom that improves students' rates of learning while developing 21st century skills.

State Technology Goals

Sunshine State Standards

The Sunshine State Standards drive teaching and learning in the state of Florida. Technology integration in the schools will help teachers to facilitate student achievement of state standards for academic excellence. **The Sunshine State Standards are currently under revision by FLDOE staff, standards-writing organizations, and small writing teams representing all content areas.

8 Strategic Imperatives

It is the mission of Florida's K-20 education system to realize the full potential of all students within one seamless, efficient system, by allowing them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through learning opportunities. The Florida statue, Section 1008.31, identifies the four goals of high student achievement, seamless articulation, skilled workforce, and quality efficient systems. The Eight Strategic Imperatives are the priorities of the Florida Department of Education. Each imperative is associated with one of the four goals with select objectives, priority projects, and performance measures. These strategic imperatives serve to guide policymaking, planning, and budgetary decisions at the state level and throughout the K-20 governance structure.
