Competitive Grants

2005-06 – Leveraging Laptops
The purpose of the Leveraging Laptops program was to develop effective models for enhancing student achievement through the integration of the laptop computer as a tool for teaching and learning in the classroom. Districts were encouraged to present innovative proposals that were supported by current scientifically based research. Funded proposals included a research design that was supervised by a Research Oversight Committee appointed by the Bureau of Instruction and Innovation. To ensure the quality of the research design for this program, all funded proposals participated in the Teaching and Learning Summer Institutes.

2006-07 – Florida Digital Educators
The primary purpose of this funding opportunity was to expand teacher and instructional program administrator involvement in the Florida Digital Educator Program. Increasing teacher exposure to innovative classroom instructional activities that promote and support effective digital resource integration and engaged student learning are important priorities for the program, in addition to the development of digital tools for teachers and students. The Florida Digital Educator Program is dedicated to authentic, data driven, relevant, rigorous integration of technology across the K12 curricula for the purpose of providing educators with the technology skills necessary to provide their students with opportunities to participate in project-based learning that requires the use of higher order thinking skills necessary in today’s global economy (http://etc.usf.edu/fde/index.htm).

2007-08 – Leveraging Laptops through the Florida Digital Educator Program
The “Leveraging Laptops through the Florida Digital Educator Program” initiative will help ensure effective integration of innovative learning tools and project-based learning activities in K-12 curricula. A priority of the initiative is to increase student technology literacy evaluation. Encouraging strategy development and preliminary planning necessary to implement technology-facilitated assessments is also an important purpose of this initiative. The Florida Digital Educator Program is a statewide impact effort dedicated to authentic instruction, rigorous integration of technology, and 21st century skill development. Projects funded through this competition will expand teacher and administrator program involvement to schools with especially challenging student populations. Intensive professional development intervention, follow-up mentoring, and “Action Research” activities are keys to success of the Florida Digital Educator Program.
